Thank you to all those who support our programs through donations, grants, Main Street Tax Credit donations, volunteer hours, and all the little ways you keep Main Street alive!
When you shop at Island Thrift, you help your community. We donate to Island County organizations and charities, in the form of one-time and ongoing grants. Funding decisions are based on factors such as the number of people served, the organization’s needs and abilities, and the potential for additional funding sources.
Wal-Mart Oak Harbor
Walmart believes in operating globally and giving back locally – creating impact in the neighborhoods where we live and work. Through the Community Grant Program, our associates are proud to support the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations.
Oak Harbor Garry Oak Society
The Oak Harbor Garry Oak Society is committed to the stewardship of Garry Oak Trees on Whidbey Island through outreach, education, and preservation. The Oak Harbor Garry Oak Society preserves existing Garry oak trees by removing invasive species that threaten existing trees, by planting Garry oaks in new areas, and by advocating for the preservation of existing oaks that may be threatened by development or land use. Our members have worked with the Oak Harbor Parks Board to assist in the development of interpretive signs at Smith Park for educating the public about the venerable old park.
Garry Oak Grove Mural
The Downtown Oak Harbor Garry Oak Mural intends to “connect” downtown to Smith Park, informing people that a nice park with a rare Garry oak grove is a short walk away. Many visitors to our Pioneer Way events are not aware of the park and may wander up to discover it during a street festival. The mural will also raise interest in our heritage and ecology as the Garry oak is our city’s namesake tree.
